It’s a gift to be in your inbox. I am buoyed by the comments and emails I receive about what I write here. After some reflection, I’ve decided that I can use this platform to do some good in the world, while also giving myself room to write more freely about whatever I wish. Going forward, MOST of my posts will be behind a paywall. This will allow me to post what I want, with a nominal degree of privacy, but the funds will not be for me. Each month, your paid subscription will go to a different charity. I will always report back letting you know where it went (with receipts!). I am comfortable with this—to me, it’s the best use of this platform’s revenue-generating capabilities for someone who earns their income elsewhere. I just wouldn’t feel right asking people to pay to read my occasional thoughts (though I am personally happy to support independent writers here when I can).
The cost is $5.00 USD per month or $50 USD per year—that is the minimum that Substack will allow me to charge.
Things might change in the future—I am not promising that any of this is permanent, but for now you can expect at least one post per month, maybe more. But because your subscription isn’t going to me, I hope that even in the chance I don’t post, you will be gratified to receive notice that your $5 USD went to an organization/individual/family that really needs it. I will pause paid subscriptions if I know I won’t be writing for a period.
If you can’t afford a paid subscription but would like to keep reading, please reach out via email. Also, some people just don’t like the model of paying upon which this platform is built and I totally get that. No hard feelings if you’d rather not.
I’m excited for what this makes possible! Thank you for your support, whether in the past as a free subscriber, or going forward as a paid subscriber.
In peace, gratitude, and love,
Sara
